Arcilla. Arte. Cultura.

Mi idea radical es usar arcilla como conducto para construir comunidad y la narración de historias sobre nuestro vecindario. La arcilla tiene una fisicalidad que inmediatamente evoca el pasado y brinda infinitas posibilidades para crear visualmente un futuro. Un trozo de arcilla tiene la posibilidad de convertirse en casi cualquier cosa, un recipiente, una escultura, un plato y más. Quiero que la arcilla sea el conducto para formar y sanar la comunidad a través de conversaciones sobre el vecindario de La Villita, los viejos tiempos, la batalla en curso contra el racismo ambiental, su resistencia y las historias que dieron forma a mi vecindario. A medida que la demografía de La Villita está cambiando, quiero capturar y resaltar las historias de residentes, líderes, activistas y organizaciones que le han dado forma a La Villita. Me interesa usar la versatilidad de la arcilla como una forma de reimaginar el futuro de nuestra comunidad y también como una forma para que los participantes moldeen la arcilla para lo que les gustaría manifestar en su vida, comunidad y más.

Clay. Craft. Culture.

My radical idea is to use clay as a conduit to community building and storytelling about my neighborhood. Clay has a physicality that immediately evokes the past and gives infinite possibilities to visually create a future. A lump of clay has the possibilities to become just about anything, a vessel, a sculpture, a plate and more. I want clay to be the conduit to forming and healing community through conversations about Little Village neighborhood, the old days, the ongoing battle against environmental racism, its resiliency, and the histories that shaped our neighborhood. As the demographics of Little Village is changing I want to capture and highlight the stories of longtime residents, leaders, activists, and organizations that have shaped La Villita. I am interested in using the versatility of clay as a way to reimagine the future of our community and also as a way for the participants to shape clay for what they would like to manifest in their life, community, and more.
